Fish Advisories from the EPA and the State of New York - Fish are a lean, low-calorie source of protein and can be an important part of a healthy diet. However, nearly all fish and shellfish contain traces of mercury. Some fish and shellfish contain higher levels of mercury that may harm an unborn baby or young child's developing nervous system. The risks depend on the amount of fish and shellfish eaten and the levels of mercury. Be a smart eater by being aware of advisories to make healthy choices.
